ryu was the only real skyforce member. he was also the first to be affected by the bironic wave{he was givan the hawk energy} he was planed to be affected by the wave with other skyforce members including his future wife. but when atacked by the vyran he retreated back to earth using the jethawk with his commander.every other member was destroyed by the vyran. when he tryed to convice gai to be a jetman they where engaged in battle.he was the only member that had a clue how to use the jetman powers at first. when gai left ryu waasent going to take no for a answer so then he challenged him to race undfourtently ryu was attaked gai dident care but soon gai realzied what he had to do and saved ryu. when kaori was trying to piolet her jet machine ryu trusted her that she can do it. after kaori crashed he helped her regain her strenght. soon he discovers maria is lee and told kaori he dosent love her
